Four Additional Coronavirus Deaths Reported On Central, South Coasts; State Has Data Errors

There’s been four additional coronavirus related deaths on the Central and South Costs, bringing the region’s total to 157.

Ventura County had one additional death, for 77 overall.  Santa Barbara County is reporting three more, for a total of 64, and San Luis Obispo County 16.  About three quarters of those who’ve died were older adults with preexisting health conditions.

The state is having issues with its data collection and reporting systems, and it’s possible some of what was reported for the last week is off base, and possibly low.  The numbers aren’t related to the death count, but other information like the number of diagnosed new cases.

On the Central and South Coasts, officials have added disclaimers to health department websites saying that because of the problems, the numbers may not be accurate.  State officials say they are contacting more than 80 labs to double check results for the last week, as they work to fix the issues.
