Former Olympian Who Lost Brother To Suicide Talks About Prevention At South Coast Event

Three time Olympian Suzy Favor Hamilton battled mental health issues, and lost her brother to suicide. She's now a mental health and sucide prevention program advocate

Every day, nine people take their lives in California. More than 200 people commit suicide on the Central and South Coasts annually. These are more than statistics for a three time Olympian, who battled mental health issues herself, and lost a brother to suicide.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco talks with the Olympian, who was the keynote speaker at a South Coast conference looking at ways to get the community more involved with preventing suicide.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
