Firefighters say are getting a good handle on the 9400 acre Maria brush fire in Ventura County, prompting them to cancel all evacuation orders.
The fire is 30% contained as of Saturday night. Officials say as crews firm of fire lines, they don't expect significant growth in the acreage before the blaze is fully contained. But, getting to 100% containment is expected to take much of the coming week.
There was no significant new flareups reported today. After strong wind for the last few days, the weather is finally cooperating. Only light wind is in the forecast, and humdity levels are expected to increase.
The fire started Thursday night on South Mountain outside of Santa Paula. The wind expanded into hundreds of acres in a matter of hours.
Three structures have been destroyed, but no one was hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials are looking at reports from Southern California Edison that the fire started just after the reenergized some power lines which had been shut down.
