Firefighters now have the upper hand on a brush fire near the Ventura-Los Angeles County which closed some lanes of Highway 118.

The 20 acre Peak Fire in the Rocky Peak area was reported just after 11 a.m. Tuesday. It sent up a huge plume of smoke over the San Fernando Valley.  No homes were threatened.

More than 100 firefighters from Ventura and Los Angeles Counties aided by helicopters have been fighting the fire.  The blaze is in Los Angeles County, but because it was so close to the county line both fire agencies responded.

Two firefighters were taken to a hospital for treatment of heat exhaustion.
