Fire On South Coast Guts Home

A three-story house has been reduced to scorched rubble after a major fire in Summerland.

The fire broke out around 7 in the evening Tuesday.

It could be seen for miles, as winds in excess of 40 miles per hour whipped up the flames.

There was a concern that the fire might spread to other structures in the area.

Carpinteria, Montecito and Santa Barbara firefighters were all called in to stop the house fire, along with the extended fire that spread to nearby brush.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but residents said there was a power surge just prior to the start of the blaze.
