Fire At Recycling Facility On South Coast Visible For Miles; No One Hurt

Apr 11, 2019

Dozens of firefighters are trying to mop up a big fire that’s been burning for hours at a waste recycling facility on the South Coast. The blaze was visible throughout much of Western Ventura County Thursday afternoon.

The fire sent up a huge plume of smoke from an industrial park in Saticoy. It started around noon in a several story high mulch pile at the Standard Industries recycling facility. Captain Stan Ziegler, with the Ventura County Fire Department says about 50 firefighters from different agencies are battling the blaze.

He says these types of fires are tough to fight. It’s burning inside a 300 foot wide pile of waste materials. Crews have to use bulldozers to try to get to the core of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No one was injured, and no structures were damaged.
