The final countdown is on for the 2017 Ventura County Fair, the latest edition of a tradition which began in 1875.
The Ventura County Fair officially opens at 11 a.m. Wednesday, but hundreds of people lined up at Seaside Park Tuesday to get discount admission and ride tickets.
Sherry Cash of Ventura says she always stocks up, but that this year is extra important because she’s bringing more than a dozen people to the fair on Saturday. The free grandstand entertainment this year includes the bands SmashMouth, Huey Lewis and the News, and KC and the Sunshine Band.
Comedian Gabriel Iglesias will perform, as will country star Wynonna, and there will be motor sports and professional rodeo. There are also lots of traditional fair elements including carnival rides, games, and livestock shows and judging.
The 142nd annual fair runs through August 13th.
