An event to address gun violence -- organized by mostly students – was held over the weekend in the Conejo Valley.
Students paid tribute to each one of the Borderline shooting victims by telling their stories to open up this forum at Westlake High School.
Susan Orfanos, whose son Tel was killed in the shooting, spoke about her pain.
“As a family, we didn’t survive the shooting. We live with its results: every minute of every day,” she said.
Sixteen-year-old Quinn Muscatel says she helped organize this event to advocate for gun violence prevention.
“If we really want change and we don’t want this to happen again, we really need to fight for a solution,” she said.
Elected officials joined the forum.
“We need to address gun safety legislation. The democrats in Congress – we have an agenda and we have a plan,” said Congresswoman Julia Brownley who represents Ventura County.
She spoke about a House bill to expand background checks.
