A popular resident of a South Coast Zoo has died. An elderly snow leopard at the Santa Barbara Zoo unexpectedly passed away. Zoe had a number of health issues, but the sudden death of the 15 year old cat was unexpected.
The zoo’s team tried to revive the leopard after she collapsed, but they were unsuccessful. They think she had a heart attack or stroke.
Zoe was born at the Akron, Ohio Zoo in 2003, and arrived at the Santa Barbara Zoo in 2010. Her male companion, Everett, is 21, and is the oldest snow leopard in any accredited zoo.
Snow leopards are normally found in Central Asia, and are an endangered species.
