Eight Months After Montecito Mudflow, Search Restarts For Two Missing Children

The search for two children still unaccounted for after the January 9th mudflow in Montecito has restarted.

The all-volunteer group The Santa Barbara Bucket Brigade, led by Abe Powell, is spearheading the search.

Powell and a team are going through some remaining debris piles that were moved out of the way in the reconstrucion process, even though search dogs had combed through the area.

They are looking for 17-year-old Jack Cantin and 2-year-old Lydia Sutthithepa, who have been missing since the disaster.

The team will be using heavy equipment and hand tools on their route from Highway 192 to the ocean along Olive Mill Road.

Powell says the project will take about three weeks.

Andy worked at KCLU from 2016 until 2022.
