As efforts continue to save a South Coast performing arts complex from permanent closure over money, a deal has been reached to keep its classrooms and ballrooms open to the communty at least through March 1st.
The financially strapped City of Oxnard ended funding for the Oxnard Performing Arts Center as of December 31st. City officials have been trying to find an operator willing to take over the more than half century old complex to run it as a self-sustaining facility.
Officials have been talking to a nightclub operator about taking over management of the PAC, possibly partnering with the non-profit which has been running it. The major moneymaking potential for the complex comes from its 1600 seat theater. But, because of the questions surrounding the venue's future, there's nothing booked for the next few months. PAC officials are hoping people planning events will consider booking at the facility, or think about coming to events which might take place there to help generate revenue.
In the interim, the PAC has made some temporary staff reductions as it uses reserves to keep its classroom and ballroom facilities operating.
