The sounds of gunfire could be echoing throughout parts of Ventura County for the next few weeks, but the shots aren’t real.
The Navy is conducting a two week training exercise at Naval Base Ventura County beginning Sunday which involves the use of blank gunfire.
In the past, the exercises would be conducted elsewhere, but Navy officials say they need to do it on the base because of coronavirus-related travel restrictions. The idea is to prepare Seabees with experience in what it might be like to work on an engineering project in a combat zone.
The sounds of small arms, and artillery fire could potentially be heard by people near the base. The drills will take place from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through October 6th.
