Detectives now say a man critically injured in an officer involved shooting in Ventura County was wanted for threatening to bomb a police station, and local schools. They say Christopher Hays called 911 in Ventura multiple times Monday morning, making a number of threats.
He was identified, and patrol officers learned he might be headed to the Government Center. A Ventura Police sergeant spotted the 37 year old man in the parking lot.
Detectives say Hays ignored orders to surrender, and in a struggle grabbed the sergeant’s baton, hitting the officer multiple times. Investigators say after the officer’s Taser failed to stop Hays, he fired two shots, which hit and critically injured the Ventura man.
Hays is in stable condition after surgery. The officer was treated for minor injuries.
