Dangerous Winds Impacting Central, South Coasts; Emergency Power Shutoffs Possible in Ventura County

Oct 10, 2019

There’s a Red Flag Warning in effect for Ventura and Los Angeles Counties Thursday morning, with Santa Ana winds elevating the potential for brush fires. Meteorologists say we could see wind in the 50 mile an hour range on the coast, and inland, and up to 70 miles an hour in the mountains.

High wind is in the forecast through early Friday evening. The wind isn’t expected to reach Red Flag levels in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, but it could still be strong, and potentially dangerous at times.

As a result of the wind, there’s the possibility or some precautionary power shutoffs by Southern California Edison in parts of several Ventura County communities including Fillmore, Moorpark, and Ventura. Edison notified more than 23,000 potentially affected customers earlier this week.

Because of the potential shutdown, the Fillmore Unified School District cancelled all classes and extracurricular activities for Thursday and Friday.   The District’s offices and school campuses are closed.
