Cyberattack Hits Some Education Websites On South Coast

A cyberattack which hit some government websites across the country, sending them to pages with information about a terrorist’s group impacted some public education agencies on the South Coast.

Some people looking for information on some education related websites in Ventura County were shocked to find themselves redirected to pro-ISIS websites.

Dave Schermer, with the Ventura County Office of Education, says the hackers targeted some of the office’s websites Wednesday morning. Their tech team quickly took down the hacked sites, and as a precaution some sites they manage for school districts, and had them back online Wednesday afternoon.

The attack also hit websites of some public agencies and officials in other parts of California, and Maryland as well.
