A program providing renewable energy to thousands of South Coast customers is offering a new incentive to save power. The pilot program is paying people who are willing to cut consumption during peak demand periods.
The Clean Power Alliance is an alterative to Southern California Edison serving about a million accounts in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. People participating are getting energy from renewable resources delivered through the Edison network.
The new Clean Power Alliance CPA Power Response pilot program gives customers rebates if they agree to reducing consumption during peak demand times. The deal calls for the alliance to tap into the systems of people with smart thermostats, and automatically adjust them.
You don’t have to have a smart thermostat like a Nest to participate. Aside from knowing you are helping the environment, and saving money by reducing your power bill, you actually get payment in the form of gift cards for participating. Businesses can also get rebates.
This is a pilot program, so Clean Power Alliance officials say they aren’t sure exactly what kind of response they’ll get. But, they think it will become a popular program around the country
The Clean Power Alliance serves more than 30 communities in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties, giving people the chance to electricity coming from renewable resources. The alliance has also launched a new online solar marketplace, to help people considering adding solar power systems, or solar plus solar plus storage battery systems.
Interest in solar systems with battery storage has spiked in the last year as the result of planned power outages by utilities which are intended to prevent the start of brush fires.
