Authorities have announced plans for a crackdown on a growing homeless camping problem at a South Coast beach. Oxnard, and Port Hueneme Police contacted people in about 30 camps in the Ormond Beach area, and notified them they would have to leave.

Oxnard City and Ventura County social service workers were on hand to provide information on resources available to the homeless. It’s been a growing issue for nearby residents, with some saying the homeless have been overrunning the area, and leaving them feeling unsafe.

Oxnard Police Chief Scott Whitney says it could take a few weeks, but that the area will be cleaned up and protected.
