Coronavirus Surge Continues On Central, South Coasts; 400+ New Cases Reported

Friday was another rough day on the Central and South Coast in the battle against coronavirus, with more than 400 new cases reported.

Ventura County has 269 new cases, Santa Barbara County 133, and San Luis Obispo County 33.  There have now been 13,468 diagnosed cases in the region.

Ventura County is at 6.392 diagnosed cases, Santa Barbara County 5,576, and San Luis Obispo County an even 1500.

Santa Barbara County Supervisor Gregg Hart says the county averaged 13 new cases a day before Memorial Day, but for the past week has averaged 121 cases a day.  About a thousand of Santa Barbara County’s cases are linked to the federal prison complex in Lompoc, but the situation has stabilized there, and the surge in the county has been in the community.

The good news is that most of those diagnosed with the virus in the region have already recovered.

The death toll also increased by four in the region Friday, to bring the total to 107.  Ventura County reported four additional deaths, for 67 overall.  Santa Barbara County has had 32 deaths, and San Luis Obispo County eight.
