The coronavirus surge continues in California. There’s been a second record day of new cases in a row statewide. Health officials on the Central and South Coast reported 200 new cases.
More than 7100 new cases were recorded in the state during the last 24 hours, up about 1100 from Tuesday. Part of the increase may be linked to the growth in testing. Nearly 100,000 people were tested statewide during the last day.
The number of positive cases on the Central and South Coasts tops 5300, with 200 new cases reported Wednesday. The number now stands at 5323. Ventura County is at 2260 cases, Santa Barbara County 2590, and San Luis Obispo County has 473 cases.
About a thousand of Santa Barbara County’s cases are linked to the federal prison complex in Lompoc. Most of the more than 5300 plus people diagnosed with coronavirus in the region have already recovered.
