Coronavirus Crisis Leaves South Coast Farmhouse (And Its Herd Of Baby Goats) In The Economic Lurch

As businesses of all types struggle to adapt during the coronavirus crisis, one South Coast farmhouse is working to stay afloat.

Unlike many businesses, the Cabra Farmhouse in Newbury Park has not laid off any employees, because those employees are goats.

The farmhouse’s owner, Alexia Serrano, says that although her homemade goat milk soap is selling well - because of all the hand washing - her special goat yoga classes have been cancelled indefinitely.

“This is our busy time of the year, and we’re not having any goat yoga, so there’s no income basically,” she says.  A new group of kids has recently been weaned, and they would otherwise be an excellent draw.

If things continue, Serrano says she’s not sure how long she can keep the farmhouse business going, but the goats are helping her through this difficult time.

“When I’m stressed out about the coronavirus I just go down to the barn and I play with the baby goats," Serrano says. "When I get back, I’m happy.”

When we got them on the phone, the goats seemed to like that as well.
