Construction Plans Begin In Earnest On Site Of Historic South Coast Hotel

The once-blue-roofed Miramar Hotel and Convention Hall in Montecito is finally making a comeback.

Ownership and design changes on the project have gone on for 16 years.

The site was dilapidated and empty.

Dirt is now being moved at the location of off San Ysidro Road, and a staging and leveling phase has begun, according to Santa Barbara County planners.

Owner Rick Caruso says he hopes to have the new Miramar open in 2018.

The beachfront hotel on 16 acres will have 170 rooms and cottages, 2 swimming pools, a restaurant and meeting space for 400.

It will be operated by Rosewood Hotels.
