Construction On Long Sought Project To Add Sidewalks To South Coast Community Kicks Off This Week

Construction is set to start on a three million dollar plus project to bring sidewalks and other needed infrastructure to a South Coast community.

Goleta's Old Town area has a patchy network of crosswalks, forcing people to walk in the streets in some areas.

The construction project officially kicking off this week will add sidewalks, drainage improvements, and parking.

It's been in the planning stages for three years.  What's made planning complex is the fact that the city has had to negotiate with about 100 property owners to secure right-of-way for the work.

Goleta received a $2.2 million dollar state grant to fund much of the $3.2 million dollar project.
