A highly watched congressional race which includes parts of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties is still too close to call.
It’s the battle for the 25th Congressional district, which is based in Santa Clarita, but includes a slice of eastern Ventura County.
The latest percentages show Democrat Christy Smith and Republican Mike Garcia each with 50% of the vote. In Ventura County, Garcia is doing slightly better than Smith, with 53% of the vote. In Los Angeles County, Smith is up slightly with 51% of the vote.
But, state officials say between the two counties, some 650,000 ballots have yet to be counted. We don’t know how many are in the 25th District.
The seat became open after Democrat Katie Hill, who was elected in 2018, resigned following a scandal. There was a special election in May to fill the rest of Hill’s term, which expires this year.
Garcia beat Smith, but this race was for the next full two-year term.
