The long awaited reopening of a Santa Barbara County pool has happened, but it’s going to be a few weeks still before people will be able to make their first splash in it.
Cuyama’s community pool was re-dedicated yesterday after a four year closure. The pool opened in 2010, but two years after it opened, a major leak was noted. Experts determined that an underground drain pipe had become disconnected, which caused soil movement which cracked the pool. There was a legal fight, and redesign work, but now, Cuyama’s pool project is complete.
The Joseph Centeno Aquatics Complex will be ready for its first swimmers around the end of the month. The final hangup is training and certifying lifeguards for the pool.
