A Coast Guard helicopter crew braved bad weather to evacuate an injured cargo ship crew member off the Central Coast.
It happened on board the Hyundai Jupiter Friday. The crew member was hurt in a 16 foot fall. The ship radioed the Coast Guard for help.
The thousand foot long cargo ship was in heavy fog about 50 miles west of San Luis Obispo.
The Coast Guard sent a tracking plane, and a helicopter from Northern California. The plane's tracking systems were able to guide the helicopter through the fog to the ship. A helicopter crew member and a basket were lowered to the ship.
The accident victim was safely airlifted to Santa Barbara, and is reported to be in stable condition at Cottage Hospital.
