Classes Cancelled After Student Assaulted On South Coast College Campus

A South Coast university campus was shut down after a student was attacked in a restroom.

Cal State Channel Islands officials say a female student was physically assaulted by another female student in the university's Bell Tower building Wednesday morning. CSUCI Police say the attacker brandished a handgun.

Investigators say the attacker was last seen fleeing the building after the assault.

The campus is not on any type of lockdown, and commuter students have been leaving campus.

All classes and activities have been cancelled for the rest of Wednesday.  Students and staff members are being told not to come to campus.
