Central, South Coasts End 2020 With Big Daily COVID-19 Numbers

The last day of 2020 was one of the roughest yet when it comes to new coronavirus case numbers on the Central and South Coasts.  Nearly 2200 hundred cases were reported in the Tri-Counties Thursday.

Ventura County had 1582 cases, Santa Barbara County 396, and San Luis Obispo County 219, for a total of 2197.  There have now been 67,347 cases in the region since the start of the pandemic.  Ventura County has nearly 40,000 cases alone, standing at 39,559 as of Thursday.

Six new coronavirus related deaths have been reported in the region, with three in Ventura County and three in Santa Barbara County.  The total for the region has pushed past the 500 market.

The hospital intensive care unit capacity for the 11 county Southern California region, which includes Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo Counties still officially stands at 0%.  But, the emergency rooms in our region haven't reached the critical overflow status we've been seeing in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
