Cancelled South Coast Health Expo Moves Free Flu Shots Straight To Seniors

The annual Senior Expo at the Earl Warren Showgrounds is an event that would normally draw about a thousand attendees, but organizers have had to adapt to its cancellation due to coronavirus concerns.

Instead, they've developed an outreach effort to get flu shots to seniors where they live, with 13 designated locations.

The program began at the San Vicente Mobile Home Park in Santa Barbara.

"We are going out to the sites and vaccinating folks either outside or in large community rooms where we can have social distancing, and going into their homes if people are home bound," said Jan Koegler with the Santa Barbara County Health Department.

Filling out paperwork takes about five minutes.

Officials say they have enough of the vaccine for their present outreach efforts, and then next week, there will be two free flu clincs for county residents of all ages.

Andy worked at KCLU from 2016 until 2022.
