California Congressional Representatives Call On Air Force To Locate Space Command On Central Coast

Some congressional legislators are proposing that the Central Coast be home base for the federal government’s new Space Command. Democratic Congressman Salud Carbajal of Santa Barbara, along with the state’s two U.S. Senators sent a letter to the Secretary of the Air Force about the Space Command effort. They asked her to consider Vandenberg Air Force Base for the headquarters.

The letter says that because of the existing facilities and operations at the base, Vandenberg is a logical choice.

On May 14th, the Air Force released a list of six bases being considered for the command center, and Vandenberg is on the short list.

The Space Command created by the Trump Administration is intended to be a unified organization overseeing all U.S. military activities in space.
