Cal State Channel Islands, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo To Offer Classes Online Through Academic Year

Two university campuses on the Central and South Coasts will be sticking with online classes for the entire academic year which is now underway.   The Cal State University system has announced that due to coronavirus safety concerns, classes will be only be offered online through the end of the 2020-2021 academic year.  The 23 campuses had been hoping to return to in-person instruction in January.

The decision by CSU Chancellor Timothy White impacts two campuses on the Central and South Coasts, Cal State Channel Islands and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

In a statement, White says the absence of a vaccine and the lack of a sufficient, cost-effective and timely testing infrastructure make in-person classes impractical at this time.

Campuses are offering some limited exceptions to the restrictions for classes which include elements which can’t be offered online.
