Two more universities on the Central and South Coasts have announced plans to suspend traditional classes, and move to virtual instruction in light of coronavirus concerns. Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo are making the shift.
Cal Lutheran begins the transition Friday, and fully implements the change Monday. There may be a few exceptions for some classes to have essential in-class components. Student housing and food services will continue to remain open. The university has also cancelled all events with an expected attendance of more than 100 people.
University officials say they are working to bring Cal Lutheran students who are a part of its "Study Abroad" program back to their homes in the U.S. as soon as possible.
Cal Lutheran is a member of the NCAA's SCIAC sports conference, which has cancelled all events for the remainder of the spring season.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo has extended its Spring Break, and will begin online classes April 6th. It’s cancelled its popular annual Open House, and Rodeo.
The Big West Conference has cancelled all league events, a move which affects Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara, which are members of the NCAA sports conference.
UCSB and Cal State Channel Islands had already announced they were moving to online instruction.
