A brush fire has burned more that 25 acres of land in a Ventura County riverbed, sending up a plume of smoke visible for miles.
The fire was reported at about 11:45 Monday morning, in the Santa Clara Riverbed southwest of Santa Paula. Ventura County firefighters have been trying to keep the blaze contained to the riverbed area. An evacuation warning was issued for the Shell Road and Todd Road areas. There are only a handful of homes in the agricultural area, but there are some industrial businesses.
Smoke from the fire was pushed west by high wind, along Highway 126 into the Ventura area.
High wind conditions havee prompted Red Flag Warnings for increased brush fire danger on the Central and South Coasts.
