Attacks Which Historians Consider Start Of Holocaust Remembered By Santa Barbara Survivor

A synagogue in Germany burns has people watch during the November, 1938 attacks on Germany's Jewish community which is known as "Kristallnacht"

It’s an almost forgotten event, but it was what many historians consider to be the beginning of the Holocaust. In November of 1938, Jewish synagogues and businesses were vandalized or destroyed, and many people beaten or murdered.

Santa Barbara's Jewish Federation has exhibitions open to the public with the stories of survivors of Kristallnacht, and the Holocaust.

KCLU’s Lance Orozco talks with a Santa Barbara woman who survived the attacks, and the Holocaust.  Her story is among those featured by the Jewish Federation of Greater Santa Barbara.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
