Arrest Made In Connection With String Of Mail Thefts On Central, South Coasts

Detectives say they’ve arrested a South Coast man for stealing mail from homes in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties.

The investigation started in December, after a Montecito resident reported repeated package thefts.  The victim installed a video camera, and in January it caught a thief in action.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives say they used the video to identify Juan Carolos Coronado-Mendoza as a suspect.  After getting a search warrant, they raided Coronado-Mendoza’s Santa Barbara home.

Investigators say they found stolen mail from communities ranging from Oxnard to the Santa Ynez Valley. Coronado-Mendoza was arrested for charges including mail theft, forgery, burglary, and credit card theft.
