An Academy Award nominated actor whose movie and television career spanned more than a half century has died at his Santa Barbara County home. Stuart Whitman appeared in classic movies like “Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines” and the World War Two epic “The Longest Day.”
He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the 1961 drama “The Mark.” In the 1960’s, he was considered to be one of Hollywood’s leading men. He also guest starred in a number of popular TV series, and headlined the western series “Cimarron Strip.” He appeared in his last TV roles about 20 years ago. Whitman died at his home in Montecito, following a battle with skin cancer. He was 92 years old.
