Largest Health Care Agency On Central, South Coasts Gets New Chief

A longtime Ventura County administrator has been promoted to the county’s top healthcare post.  Barry Zimmerman is the new head of the Ventura County Health Care Agency.

Zimmerman has been the agency’s Deputy Director since February of 2020.  Before that, he headed the County’s Human Services Agency for more than a decade.

The county conducted a nationwide search, but County CEO Mike Powers says he was impressed by how Zimmerman stepped up to help lead the agency during the pandemic.

Zimmerman fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Bill Foley. The agency is the largest one in the county.  It runs the county’s two hospitals, dozens of clinics, plus key services like behavioral health.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
