Oxnard College Professor Suspended After Controversial Confrontation With Student Online

An Oxnard College professor has been put on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, following a confrontation with a hard-of-hearing student during an online class.

The video has gone viral.  In the clip, the professor is seen accusing the student of not paying attention, and of failing to respond to him. Other students jump in, and try to explain that it takes time for her translator system to work.

Ventura County Community College District officials say the are “deeply troubled” by what they’ve seen on the video.   They say while the investigation is pending, they are opposed to any language or behavior which is offensive or harmful to anyone based on gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age, or disability.

Officials say they investigation could take up to three months.  The suspended professor has been with the district for 20 years.
