An annual holiday season event on the South Coast to help those in need is taking on some extra urgency this year because of the pandemic.  Santa Barbara’s Unity Shoppe supplies people in need with essentials like food and clothing year-round, and toys for kids during the holidays.

It hopes to help 3000 families this month.Singer Kenny Loggins and other celebrities will gather for the three decade old Unity Teletheon on KEYT, Channel 3 Saturday to support the shop.

Unity Executive Director Tom Reed says the pandemic wiped out their other big fundraisers, so the telethon is essential.

This year’s telethon is dedicated to Unity Shoppe founder Barbara Tellefson, who passed away a few weeks ago.  The telethon runs from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday on KEYT.
