What Happens When You Mix Mariachi And Heavy Metal Music? It's A Band Called "Metalachi"

It’s a band perhaps unlike any other in the world, bringing together traditional mariachi music sounds with heavy metal rock.  Even its name is unique. It’s called “Metalachi.”  This weekend, the nationally known band is bringing its unique music fusion to the South Coast for a live concert.   It’s part of the “Concert in Your Car” drive-in movie style performances at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.

It sounds like an unlikely musical combination.  But, a decade ago, a group of young rock musicians fueled by a bottle of tequila decided it was worth a try.  They loved the sound.

The result is the Southern California based band, which bills itself as the world’s first and only heavy metal mariachi band.  Paco Holden is guitarist for the five person band.

He says they're known for its covers of some of the world’s most famous heavy mental anthems.  The guitarist says it’s been fun to have members of some of the big names in heavy metal come to see Metalachi perform their songs.

Holden says while the band found its niche in the rock music world due to a whim, and some tequila, he and other band members feel lucky to have turned it into a successful career.

Metalachi performs at 8 p.m. Saturday night at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, as part of the "Concert In Your Cars" series:  https://bit.ly/3hmiJkY
