Ventura County Gang Member Sentenced For Mistaken Attack At Child's Birthday Party Which Killed Man

A Ventura County gang member has received a 16-years-to-life prison sentence after he and others mistakenly attacked people at a child’s birthday party, killing one of the partygoers.

The attack happened in January of 2009.  Alexis Ramirez and a group of fellow gang members armed themselves with knives and guns, with the intent of attacking a rival gang holding a party.

Instead, the gang mistakenly attacked a group of people celebrating a little girl’s first birthday in Oxnard.  Multiple people were stabbed.  One of the victims, Alfredo Vargas, died.

Earlier this summer, Ramirez pled guilty to second degree murder for the attack.
