Ventura County Jail Inmate Found Not Guilty Of Killing Fellow Inmate By Reason Of Insanity

A Ventura County jail inmate who killed a fellow inmate has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Vu Cong Dao entered an insanity plea to a voluntary manslaughter charge for the October, 2018 beating and strangulation of Michael Torres.  Dao was in jail at the time on a commercial burglary charge.

By entering a not guilty by reason of insanity plea, the 37 year old man admitted killing Torres.

Dao was ruled to be legally insane by a judge who reviewed the case.  He faces up to 11 years in confinement in a state mental facility.
