The parking lot of a drug store on the South Coast was the scene of a tense standoff between a wanted man, and police. Oxnard police officers conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of a store on the 2300 block of Vineyard Avenue Sunday afternoon. But, the passenger in the car refused to surrender.
David Hernandez was wanted for a felony charge of evading police. There was a 90 minute standoff. A SWAT team then used tear gas and pepper balls to try to get the Santa Paula man to surrender.
Hernandez fled the vehicle on foot, and fought with officers, but was finally safely arrested. He’s facing a half dozen charges ranging from possession of drugs to harming a police dog.
