Largest City on Central, South Coasts Reports Major Crime Reduction

The largest city on the Central and South Coasts is reporting a major drop in violent and property crimes. Oxnard Police say the number of crimes reported in the city dropped 15% in 2019, the fourth year in a row the percentage dropped. The numbers for violent crimes like rape, robbery, and aggravated assault were all down last year.

The number of homicides remained flat, with 14 in the city in 2018, and 14 in 2019. Property crimes also showed a sharp drop in Oxnard last year. A big push to crack down on vehicle thefts showed major impacts, with a 25% drop in 2019.
