Ventura County Man Gets Six Year Plus Prison Sentence For Attack On Cruise Ship

Federal prosecutors say a former cheerleading coach from Ventura County has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for a sexual assault on a cruise ship. Anthony Paul De La Torriente of Simi Valley was convicted in February of two sexual abuse charges.

Prosecutors say the 30 year old man was on a 2015 cruise from Long Beach to Mexico when the attack happened.

De La Torriente volunteered to stay in a cabin with the victim, who had become intoxicated during a day trip. But, FBI agents who investigated the case say after the woman’s friends left, he locked the cabin door and sexually assaulted the woman.

The woman reported the attack, and the cruise ship’s medical staff took DNA samples. In addition to the prison sentence, De la Torriente will have to register as a sex offender for life.
