What first appeared to be an SUV fire on the South Coast turned into something even more serious, with the discovery of a burn victim.
Santa Barbara firefighters were called to the 500 block of Olive Street at about eight Thursday night. They knocked down the fire, but not before it gutted the vehicle, and caused damage to a nearby building.
They then discovered that neighbors were helping a badly burned man who had been in the SUV. He was taken to Cottage Hospital, and then an LA burn center.
His name hasn’t been released. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
