Police Say Teenage Girl Armed With Knife Shot In Confrontation With Officer In Oxnard

Police say a 17 year old Oxnard girl armed with a knife was shot and seriously wounded after she ignored repeated orders by an officer, eventually charging at him.

Oxnard Police received multiple calls at around seven Friday morning about a girl in the parking lot of a business on the 400 block of North Rose Avenue, waving a knife.

An officer arrived to find the teen standing in a dirt field.  Investigators say he ordered her several times to drop the knife, and when she started advancing, he backed up about 50 feet.  They say as a second officer was arriving on the scene, the teen charged the first officer and he opened fire, wounding her.

The incident was captured on the officer's body camera.  Investigators say she at one point told the officer she wanted him to shoot her.  The teen is reported to be in critical condition at a hospital.  The officer was unhurt.
