Man Could Spend Rest Of His Life Behind Bars For Molestation Of Two Young Tourists In Santa Barbara

A man who broke into a Santa Barbara apartment and sexually assaulted two young children could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The attack happened in the early morning hours of July 23rd, 2016.

Santa Barbara County prosecutors say Matthew Robert Torres broke into an apartment being rented by a British family in Santa Barbara on vacation.

Prosecutors say Torres sexually assaulted a five year old, and a seven year old girl before their father woke up, discovered what had happened, and chased Torres out of the apartment.

Police tracked down Torres with hours, and arrested him. Detectives say DNA evidence linked him to the crimes.

He was convicted this week of six charges ranging from burglary to sexual assault. The 42 year old man will be sentenced June 10th.
