State Legislator From Ventura County Proposes Law To Limit Phone Carriers From Sharing Your Location

A Ventura County legislator proposed a bill intended to prevent your cell phone carrier from selling access to information on your location to vendors. AB 523 would restrict companies from sharing your geo-location with a third party without your consent.

Democratic Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin of Thousand Oaks authored the bill.

Irwin says companies have failed to follow through on promises to stop the practice, and that it’s frightening that someone willing to pay a small fee can get your information.
