Disadvantaged Children from Ventura County Shop For Christmas Presents with Sheriff's Deputies

Ventura County kids shop with law enforcement officers for Christmas gifts

Disadvantaged children in Ventura County got a little bit of holiday cheer from law enforcement officers over the weekend.

On Saturday, 125 kids each received a $100 Target gift card, and each was paired with a Ventura County Sheriff’s deputy in Camarillo for this 5th Annual Shop with a Cop event.

"Awesome because I like police officers, and they're very awesome," Eight-year-old Matthew Gutierrez, who shopped for toys with his deputy, said.

Deputy Luke Riordan said it was a meaningful experience.

"We joined this profession to be able to help people and to make a positive impact on people.  And being able to help kids who may be going through tough times or just want to have a good Christmas, it's awesome," he said.

This program is supported by contributions to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Foundation. All officers who participated volunteered their personal time.
