Grand Jury Says Ventura County Jails In Generally Good Shape

A new Grand Jury report says jails in Ventura County are in generally good condition, but some facilities need better maintenance and repairs.

The Ventura County Grand Jury looked at county, city, and state facilities.  It says the Santa Paula Police Department needs to renovate or replace its outdated facility.

It also says the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility operated by the state appears to be safe, but is in need of maintenance and repairs.

The report notes there is no consistent countywide policy for allowing detainees to use telephones, and whether their calls will be monitored or recorded.
